Curriculum

Students will be introduced to literacy and math skills through whole group, small group, and individual instruction. Social studies and science topics are embedded within our core language arts program.

Our core reading program is Wonders by McGraw Hill. This program was built on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and provides students with rich engaging literature and informational text. Reading instruction focuses on vocabulary, fluency and comprehension while providing access to complex texts and close reading experiences.

This program also provides a strong foundation in phonemic awareness, phonics, high frequency words and spelling. We use Units of Study in Opinion, Information and Narrative Writing to provide students with extensive opportunities to write about topics they care about. This writing program uses a workshop approach and offers explicit and sequenced writing instruction. Handwriting Without Tears is used to teach proper letter formation and spacing.

In math, we have aligned our curriculum with CCSS and teach using the framework and principles of Learning Focused Schools. Math instruction is balanced with hands-on experiences that allows students to explore and practice math skills and concepts through daily problem-based, interactive learning experiences.
